Paint booth specifications

The specifications for a paint booth must allow the buyer of such an installation to formalize his requirements in terms of technical performance and health and safety criteria.

Objectives of setting up a paint booth:

  • Reduce employee exposure by capturing vapors and aerosols emitted during painting or varnishing operations and releasing them outside after filtration
  • Prevent the risks of fire and explosion

Technical characteristics of a painting or varnishing booth

The painting or varnishing booth and its installation must comply with standard NF EN 16985 “Booths for spraying coating products organic products — Safety requirements”.

Main aeraulic criteria required for cabins with horizontal ventilation

The air speed in the measurement plane must be at least:

  • 0.5 m/s on average
  • 0.4 m/s minimum value

For specific openings intended for manual spraying operations from an exterior area, the air flow must be perpendicular to the opening plane, from the exterior to the interior of the booth.

The air speed in this opening plane must be at least:

  • 0.5 m/s on average
  • 0.4m/s minimum value

For other permanent openings (loading of parts, conveyors, etc.), the air flow must also be perpendicular to the opening plane, from the outside to the inside of the cabin. The air speed measured at the central point of these openings must be greater than or equal to 0.4 m/s.

Main aeraulic criteria required for cabins with vertical ventilation

The air speed in the measuring plane, located 1 m from the ground, must be at least:

  • 0.30 m/s on average
  • 0.25 m/s minimum value

Recycling of extracted air is prohibited. The exhaust air must be discharged outside the workshop, far from the entrances. air from the building so as not to reintroduce stale air.

It will be designed so as not to be disturbed by the wind. This can be achieved by a vertical outlet located above the roof.

Fresh air compensation

The extracted air flows must be compensated with fresh tempered air. The air introduced must come from an unpolluted area.

Noise level

The sound level due to the ventilation installation must be less than 72 dB(A) at the control station. work.

Fire / Explosion

The installation must comply with the regulations in force for the prevention of fires and explosions. The requirements of standard NF EN 16985 must be respected.

Choose the ideal paint booth

A paint booth is designed to vacuum and filter hazardous substances such as oversprays (mist) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

It thus prevents the spread of particles, odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the workshop or outside.

In addition to protecting the environment and complying with regulations, it guarantees the safety of employees and facilities.

Isolating the painting process in a booth also ensures high quality work, free of contaminants like dust.
